MAIN STAGE SATURDAY AUGUST 9TH AT 9PM
Steven Bankey Band

Rock & roll in cowboy hats and boots.  This is how fans affectionately describe the sound and style of Steven Bankey & The Flatland Band.

Earning their stripes and miles playing everywhere from dive bars and dance halls to festival mainstages, they are most at home in front of a crowd and have embraced the reputation for high energy live shows founded in a rock-solid rhythm, gravity-defying guitar solos, and commanding vocal performance.

Finding each other in Kansas City, Steven Bankey, Micah Bourquin, Taylor Mead, and Jason “Jetpack” Kucerik set off in their big blue van through the country and across the states to play for audiences big and small.  With their full line-up of originals (and covers that feel like originals) they have become a fan favorite at festivals, county fairs, and honky-tonks far and wide.

Heavily influenced by both the grassroots country music movement originating in Texas and Oklahoma and by southern rock legends, Lynard Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker Band, the group has mastered the union of storytelling lyrics and jam band guitar work.  Their freshman EP, Looking for Something More, released under North Carolina based label Tremulant Records, packed six timeless songs heavy with intriguing storytelling and memorable melodies.  “The Drifter”, the album’s debut single and singalong featured on Spotify playlists “Playlist Texas” and “It’s Country to Me” and offered a full cinematic music video shot and directed by Rivera Studios.  The EP’s only ballad, “Over You” earned the 2021 Best of KC Pitch Award for Best Song.  High-tempo, backyard-party song “Tenkiller” secured a following and fan base all its own as “best friends and drinking buddies” reminisced of rowdy days gone by.

Singles from their upcoming sophomore album have skillfully fused the masterful lyrics and melodies for which the band has come to be recognized with a boot-stomping attitude and energy that summons their live shows. This record brings more rock to their expanding catalog, featuring the band’s take on classics such as Charlie Daniels Band’s “Long Haired Country Boy” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” and introduces the world to fresh originals “Volcano”,  “Never Been The Kind”, and goliath-power-ballad “I Did”.

In their relatively short tenure as a band, they earned supporting slots for top national acts including Marshall Tucker Band, Whiskey Myers, Granger Smith, Ned Ledoux, Whitey Morgan, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Shane Smith & The Saints, Silverada (Formerly Mike & The Moonpies), and Randy Rogers Band to name a few.  They have dazzled festival crowds at events such as Whiskey Myers Firewater Festival, Mid-America Music Festival, and Northwest Missouri Moon Festival.  “If you love what you do, then you will never work a day in your life.”  Steven Bankey & The Flatland Band authentically embraces this famous quote.  They truly enjoy every show and are grateful for each opportunity they have engage and connect with people through music.
